Journey
Founded in 1895 by the Mill Hill Fathers, the Nsambya Catholic Choir is a venerable institution within Uganda’s Catholic community. Situated at St. Peter’s Catholic Parish on Nsambya Hill, the choir plays a central role in the Archdiocese of Kampala. Known for their compelling liturgical music, they contribute significantly to religious ceremonies and national events. Notably, their participation in the 1969 Mass celebrated by Pope John Paul II saw their performance receive papal praise, a testament to their musical prowess. In the aftermath of Vatican II, the choir embraced a revitalization movement, integrating indigenous sacred music with traditional Catholic liturgies. 'Omwoyo Gwa Katonda,' their 2024 album, reflects this blend, featuring ten tracks combining Luganda hymns with global liturgical elements. Beyond the parish, they enhance events like Uganda Martyrs Day, creating a spiritual resonance with audiences. Through their perseverance, the Nsambya Catholic Choir remains a vital cultural and spiritual pillar, enriching Uganda’s Catholic liturgical life through the universal language of music.
